Update: Current Oil Spill Prevention Plans Pathetic
Current oil spill containment plans are not effective, and for the amount of money being spent, may not even be worth it. In my local area, the oil spill is expected to hit monday morning, and I am taking every advantage to enjoy the beach while I can. As much as I would hope that the booms will work, I know that they wont! The surf is rough and should stay rough throughout the weekend. Booms along Orange Beach, AL and in Mississipi have already broke appart. We are only human, and sadly it looks like our beaches will be ruined. Our neighboring county has devised a clever plan to stop the oil from getting into our estuaries. The basics of this plan can be seen below:
The only reason these booms have a chance to work temporarily is because the landmass blocks much of the wave action from the gulf, therefore the booms should remain fairly stable. The V shape will help condense the oil so it makes its way directly to the skimmer. One of the popular fishermen around this area (my friend) helped devise this plan. Other coastal towns should use the same technique, sacrifice a little, and save the rest.

You can notice some mistakes the person is making fighting that fish, everybody does it. It’s always easier to improve on your own mistakes when somebody else does them. Either way, that was a great catch for him.
