Using the Right Coarse Fishing Tackle for Successful Chub & Bream Fishing

Coarse fishing is a trendy alternative to angling that’s performed in the UK. Due to the high number of fish labelled “coarse”, fishermen must make a point of understanding the nature of their specific prey and selecting their fishing tackle as such. Let’s see how you can accurately choose your coarse fishing tackle based on the kind of fish.

Coarse Fishing – A Summary

Earlier on in the history of our country, gentry were the sole people who made a sport from fishing. In addition, the freshwater fish species they preferred were salmon and trout exclusively. These “noble” fishermen found other species of fish inferior. And so the label “coarse” was placed on those species. Two well-admired coarse fishing species are bream and chub.

Coarse Fishing Tackle -
Bream

Bream are bottom feeders found in Lakes, slow moving rivers, and canals. Bream stick together, meaning you won’t likely find an isolated one. To engage in worthwhile bream fishing, select a fishing rod 9’ to 13’ long. Fasten a fixed spool fishing reel onto the rod and utilize a 3 lb. to 6 lb. test line. Hook size is contingent on the bait used. Hooks numbered 10-16 should be used for maggots and worms, meanwhile number six to ten hooks are appropriate for bread and giant lobs (earthworms). Other usable baits are sweetcorn and brandlings. Brandlings are a derivative of the earthworm noticeable in decomposing, organic substances such as manure. Bream have a roughly 20-year lifespan and weigh around 7 lbs. – though the country’s record is 16 lbs., 9 oz.

Chub

Dace and chub are akin to one another—however, a chub’s anal fin is convex. These type of species can be found in running water and frequently stays near overhanging trees. Chub also hang around ponds and lakes. Implement fixed spool fishing reels paired with fishing rods that are 9 to 11 feet long. The line strength needs to be 3-5 lbs. Ideal hooks are numbered 6-16. You could try maggots, strong cheese, luncheon meat, bread, casters and plugs. Casters signify the chrysalis stage of the maggot and plugs are artificial lure that are fish shaped and shake as they are pulled through the lake. Chub have a lifespan of 10 to 12 years and the record in Britain is nearly 9 lbs. Five pounds is the average.

Whenever a UK angler matches his coarse fishing tackle to the kind of fish being looked for, the success rate is bound to go up.
